How to Throw a "Taco Twosday" Birthday Party + Party Planning Inspiration

I can barely believe that my sweet “Baby Will” is TWO!!! I don’t know quite what has possessed me this year, but when it comes to any opportunity for a party or celebration, I throw myself into it full throttle! I think there’s value in making sure we have something fun to look forward to, no matter how big or small, to keep us sane during the more mundane and tedious moments of life! Needless to say, I thoroughly enjoyed the process of planning his 2nd birthday party and am tickled to death with the results.

The majority of the decorations I used were inexpensive AND accessible. I wanted to share this sweet, special day with y’all to give you a glimpse of my life off-camera and to hopefully inspire you with ideas for throwing a party or celebration yourself! Whether it’s a toddler’s birthday or a small game night with friends, if you enjoy hosting, I encourage you to find a reason to celebrate something in your life. I’m convinced we are all the better for a good party, haha!

My handsome little man! I absolutely CANNOT with him. 😭 I got the idea for this cute backdrop from this pin on Pinterest , the balloon garland from Sweet Amy Shop US on Etsy, and the Fiesta Fringe from The Stylish Detail. I highly recommend perusing Pinterest for party aesthetic ideas. In my experience, the results of redoing ideas I find from there works out WAY better than buying random party supplies and “winging it.” Sometimes, the supplies end up not being used or don’t look cohesive. This way, I know the outcome of what I’m purchasing and that I will love the end results.

Before my family arrived to eat tacos and fajitas catered from our local Mexican restaurant, Caleb was kind enough to move our IKEA dining tables to the sunroom so that we could enjoy the beautiful April sunshine. I think this sort of setup would look just as lovely inside a room with lots of natural light!

I made this balloon garland myself, and let me tell you: purchasing a cheap balloon pump on Amazon last year was worth every penny. I have used it for multiple parties already! I got the rainbow garland kit from Hobby Lobby and hung it up with zip ties on some pre-installed hooks in our sun room but you could totally use fishing wire as well. Balloon garlands are lovely, but you don’t even have to go that hardcore, in my opinion. I think scattering balloons around a room or taping them to the ceiling and walls is such a cheap way to make things feel more festive. However you tend to use it, the balloon pump is such a time saver. And yes, that IS a tiger bounce house in the background. I have zero regrets. XD

This cake is an old family recipe we call “P.S. I Love You',” but I got the idea for the rainbow gummy bears from this Pinterest pin. You could definitely do this on most any kind of box or sheet cake; the kids and adults loved it!

I commissioned this custom wooden topper from The Online Artist Etsy Shop and think it was absolutely worth it. I would definitely do this again for parties in the future!

This taco piñata was just chef’s kiss and the kids went bananas for it! I got it from Walmart and it was super durable!! We had to get an older brother in there to give it a few good wacks before it opened up. It looks like we may have a little leftie on our hands!

Our happy little man successfully blew out his birthday candle all by himself! I will link his “Taco Twosday” shirt here. It’s from the Maley Designs Etsy Shop!

All of these decorations I was able to easily execute in my free time and I had so much fun doing it. Will and our guests enjoyed everything and we had a marvelous afternoon. I hope that this inspires you to plan or host a party for someone in your life, or yourself! It doesn’t have to cost much but can mean a lot to those around you.
